Task 23

Adios and so long to the webolution. It was fun-ish and ever so informative, although I have already forgotten a lot of it. I liked reading y'all's posts, and marveling at your smartness and how you applied the knowledge.

tasks 21 and 22

These were not so bad, I'd been putting them off because of ennui and etc. But the email from Nancy reminded me of the deadline, and my burning desire to win the laptop has spurred me on. I had done the down loadable audio book thing before, not of too much use, with my busy and important lifestyle, don't ya know. But I checked out and downloaded "The Andersonville Diary" and I hope to get a chance to listen (note to self: must bring earphones!). I saw less utility and interest in podcasts, but that's just me.

task 19--youtube is sweet

It would have been easier to stomach the disco era if they at least had worn natural fibers...sigh...But could disco have even existed without polyester and spandex? Despite the wretched excess of it all (the era, not the group), I'm fond of Earth,Wind and Fire, and here is a toe-tapper for your consideration

A welcome respite from spandex:

Special thanks to Brian for his "gracious" assistance.

task 18

I have to confess that I'm a failure, utter and complete, at wiki-izing. I tried to post a picture of my pooch, the lovable but imbecilic, Chico, on the library webolution wiki page. But strange things happened, and the picture was huge and somehow I managed to delete it (I think). I'm pretty demoralized, desolated, and dumbfounded, emphasis on the dumb-. But here he is anyway.

Too busy and important to blog

Dahlings, as a busy career woman, I simply have had no time
for tasks 17 and 18, with your "wikis" and your assorted what-nots and frivolities. Do you know how hard it is matching one's handbag to one's lamp and table? I thought not. I ordered one of my minions to explore the dubious world of "wikis", and she told me that when she went to the Book Lovers wiki, she found a most simplistic and dunderheaded review of To Kill a Mockingbird. I told her to shut up and get back to scrubbing my floor. As you can plainly see, I am a woman with no patience for "intellectualism". Task 18 will have to wait until I have applied another layer of lipstick.

I cahn't sleep...

Woe is definitely me tonight, it's almost 2 a.m., and instead of sleeping the sleep of the just, I'm noodling about on the computer like a chump. I'd like it to be somebody else's fault, please. But I was reading my book, and a very good book it was (Mohawk by Richard Russo, the more of him I read, the more there is to rhapsodize about), and I had to finish it because I was ever so close, and so it got late, and then I couldn't sleep. I tried eating a chicken gizzard as a soporific, I even chased it with a Fresca, but no go...I have to work tomorrow, or is it today, and I'm going to be very cross about the whole thing, but since it's my own fault I have a hard time sustaining a grudge against myself. Maybe I should cut others some of that slack, eh?

tasks 14-16

I watched the tutorial, not so very interesting.
I checked the Consumer Health thing and looked up some stuff, I can actually see using this once in a while.
The old newspaper collections were kind of cool, I thought it was cute the way the newspapers reported on the very mundane comings and goings and routine illnesses of the residents.

tasks 11 & 12

I went to WebJunction and saw some interesting stuff, so much that I can't remember it all, but there was an item about how the Mt. Lebanon,PA library put their old photos into an online collection, with grants and volunteer help. I also peeked at the old photos, which were swell.

Here's one of some little kid sitting in a wheelbarrow. I thought it was charming. Kind of hard to see on here, though. Task 12 was okay, lots of info on librarystaffsupport.com on staff development and other issues.

tasks 9 & 10 and how they vexed me

So, I did as I was told-watched the del.icio.us tutorial. May I say it was a big yawn? It sort of answered the question, Why should I care about this stuff? But still, here I am, not caring. Okay, so I did find some interesting stuff at del.icio.us: an interview on NPR with an author I like (Richard Russo), a site (simplified, I guess, for dunces like me) for webdesign, 77 ways to learning (faster, deeper, better, it says), etc. I'm not sure what good that does anyone, except now I know at least one other person likes Richard Russo. I don't know how to apply this stuff, though.
Ditto for task 10, only double the yawn. I feel like a big meanie with my horrid negative attitude. Enlighten me, please. I know I'm an ignorant bumpkin.
P.S. Empire Falls is a swell book (by Richard Russo), if you're in need of swellness.

tasks 7 + 8

These tasks were ever so taxing. I guess I finally did it, but all the whole time, I'm thinking, Why? I'm not so much interested in reading other people's blogs, except y'all's of course, and can't see getting much actual factual info from them either. I kind of thought the process was a bit of a bore. But hey, that's just me.

Here's a pretty picture of the 1893 World's Fair Ferris Wheel, to offset my ill-tempered kvetching.

Who is that fezzed man?

Does anyone know who this suave gent is? Pretty cool, right? If I was a guy,I'd want to be this cool!

flickr-rama

I feel like a smarty-pants tonight. I went to Flickr, took the tour, uploaded three cat pictures, joined a cat-admiration group and posted the pictures. I didn't get the cats' permission, though.

tasks 1 & 2

Despite being a-skeered of blogging, I'm starting this on Wednesday, May 9. I aim for gains in technological savvy (and it won't be hard, since I have no savvy at all).
